Kick-off webinar for six new microplastic projects from JPI Oceans' 2nd call

Last Wednesday, 20th of May 2020, JPI Oceans hosted the kick-off webinar [1] for the six new microplastic projects awarded for funding (JPI Oceans' 2nd call), being their names: Andromeda, HOTMIC, FACTS, iPlastic, microplastiX and RESPONSE

4th of May, 2020
"The first call of the JPI Ocean's joint action 'Ecological aspects of microplastics in the marine environment' resulted in the funding of four microplastics research projects: BASEMAN, EPHEMARE, PLASTOX and WEATHER-MIC."

A sea of plastics

Each year 8 million tons of plastics are thrown into the world's oceans. The smallest, called microplastics, are absorbed by marine organisms. But nobody knows what consequences plastics have for environmental health and also for human health. A team from the University of Vigo coordinates the European project Ephemare, with scientists and institutions from 10 different countries, which seek an answer to this question.

JPI-Ocean Projects Coordination Meeting

Last 17th of February, the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness hosted the kick off meeting of the four projects under the Pilot Action on Microplastics of the Joint Programming Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans (JPI-Oceans). The main objective of the meeting was to promote the cooperation and coordination among the four projects.
